NBA fans tend to exaggerate the accomplishments of their team?s players. We?ve all heard chants of ?M-V-P? for guys we know won?t get consideration for that award. Still, the Toronto Star reports that for ?the first time ever and the first time since Chris Bosh was in town, a smattering of possibly well-lubricated fans were chanting M-V-P? when center Andrea Bargnani went to the line during the team?s 92-77 win over Cleveland on Wednesday.
Bargnani finished with 31 points and has averaged 27.5 points per game over the past four games.
While Bargnani?s name won?t be mentioned in many MVP discussions, Raptors coach Dwane Casey said he is "playing at an all-star level" and offered some lofty comparisons for his big man.
?I?ve been around some great players: Shawn Kemp, Gary Payton, Kevin Garnett, Dirk (Nowitzki), he?s playing at that level offensively and defensively,? Casey said.
Toronto is 3-3 and hosts the 1-6 New Jersey Nets Friday night.
