LONDON (AP) -Liverpool has fired Kenny Dalglish after the team's eighth-place finish in the Premier League, ending his second spell in charge.

Dalglish was brought to Anfield after a 20-year absence to replace Roy Hodgson in January 2011. Liverpool says his contract was terminated Wednesday by the club's American owners, Fenway Sports Group.

Ending the club's six-year trophy drought was not enough to save Dalglish, despite the League Cup triumph in February that secured Liverpool's return to Europe in the Europa League.

He also took the team to the FA Cup final, but fell short of the owner's target of finishing in the top four as Liverpool finished 17 points behind fourth-place Tottenham.

Bet on NBA playoffs - How to bet on Point Spread?

If you love betting and enjoy it, you may either be one of these: A professional bettor who make money from betting, or a casual bettor, a sports fan who want to spice up the experience of watching the sports game. Either way, here is great news for you. Its NBA playoffs time and I am pretty sure that if you do bet on NBA playoffs, you will not only have fun but have the chance of getting higher winnings as well.?

?

If you decided to?bet on NBA?playoffs you will usually have options of either betting on a single game or of bets that combine the results of multiple games. Multiple game bets are quite risky as compared to the single game but they offer much more payout and winnings. Here?s a sample of betting method that you may opt to use.

?

Betting on Point Spread

?

In basketball, there is the ?favorite team? and ?underdog team?.

We call it ?favorite? if the team playing is expected to win the game, while ?underdog? if the team is likely to lose the game. The ?favorite? or the team that is expected to win gives, or lays, points to the team expected to lose for betting purposes.

?

Point spread is the most typical type of bet most bettors used. The oddsmaker is the one who puts out a ?line? and handicap the game based on the public perception of which team is better and which team is worse. For instance, Miami is playing with New York, and Miami is the ?favorite? team. So, let?s say the point spread will make the Miami a 10-point favorite, then this means that the Miami needs to win by 11 or more points for you to win your bet, while if you bet on New York, you will only win your bets if New York won the game or lost by nine points or less. On the other hand, if Miami win by exactly 10 points, the bet is a push, or a tie, and no money changes hands.

?

If you?bet on NBA?playoffs using the point spread bet, you will be asked to lay 11- to- 10 odds, which means that you need to risk $11 to win $10, and this is how the bookies and sportsbooks make their money thru betting. For example, I bet $11 on Miami and you bet $11 on New York, the bookie accumulate $22 between us, but if I won, I will only get $21 dollars in return. The remaining one dollar is basically the bookie's fee for accepting our wagers.

?

Betting on the Point spread can really give you real money. So, what are you waiting for? Best of luck!

International Business Students Partner with Area Clients on Project ...

For some international business students at The University of Southern Mississippi, completing a senior capstone project involved learning trade agreements and export regulations in countries as far away as France.

A group of 25 students (assembled into eight teams) in Dr. John Lambert?s IB 472 class spent the spring semester working with designated ?clients? to create new strategies for improving/expanding their export business.

?Several teams were in contact not only with business and government officials in the U.S., but also abroad in the areas of focus for their export activities,? said Lambert. ?This applied-learning project for international business students builds upon the theoretical foundation that they have learned in their academic careers by putting them on the front lines of the exporting process.?

One of the student teams included Katherine Love of Jackson, Miss.; Blair Thornton of Amory, Miss.; Brianne Painia of New Orleans and Kareanna Johnson of Florence, Miss. Their team worked with representatives from Howard Industries on developing export opportunities in France.

?It was a lot of hard work, but fun also,? said Johnson. ?We had several meetings with them and spent the entire semester focused on this project. But I have always enjoyed doing research and learning about companies here and overseas.?

Located in Laurel, Miss., Howard Industries is currently the world's largest manufacturer of distribution transformers. Kristi Bush, a channel supervisor at Howard, said the capstone presentations yielded informative and potentially rewarding results.

?I thought they were very well put together; excellent presentations that were exactly what we were looking for,? said Bush. ?It was most helpful to learn more about how other countries conduct business. We definitely plan to follow up with some of the teams on their ideas.?

Sick From Fracking? Doctors, Patients Seek Answers
Mysterious fumes wafting in from outside have repeatedly sickened several nurses at a rural Pennsylvania health clinic, forcing the clinic to temporarily relocate. Like many other people living near gas wells around the country, the clinic's staff wonders whether the industry in their backyard is making them sick.

How to minimize damage from strokes, according to experts

ScienceDaily (May 14, 2012) ? Following a stroke, factors as varied as blood sugar, body temperature and position in bed can affect patient outcomes, Loyola University Medical Center researchers report.

In a review article in the journal MedLink Neurology, first author Murray Flaster, MD, PhD and colleagues summarize the latest research on caring for ischemic stroke patients. (Most strokes are ischemic, meaning they are caused by blood clots.)

"The period immediately following an acute ischemic stroke is a time of significant risk," the Loyola neurologists write. "Meticulous attention to the care of the stroke patient during this time can prevent further neurologic injury and minimize common complications, optimizing the chance of functional recovery."

Stroke care has two main objectives -- minimizing injury to brain tissue and preventing and treating the many neurologic and medical complications that can occur just after a stroke.

The authors discuss the many complex factors that affect outcomes. For example, there is considerable evidence of a link between hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and poor outcomes after stroke. The authors recommend strict blood sugar control, using frequent finger-stick glucose checks and aggressive insulin treatment.

For each 1 degree C increase in the body temperature of stroke patients, the risk of death or severe disability more than doubles. Therapeutic cooling has been shown to help cardiac arrest patients, and clinical trials are underway to determine whether such cooling could also help stroke patients. Until those trials are completed, the goal should be to keep normal temperatures (between 95.9 and 99.5 degrees F).

Position in bed also is important, because sitting upright decreases blood flow in the brain. A common practice is to keep the patient lying flat for 24 hours. If a patient has orthopnea (difficulty breathing while lying flat), the head of the bed should be kept at the lowest elevation the patient can tolerate.

The authors discuss many other issues in stroke care, including blood pressure management; blood volume; statin therapy; management of complications such as pneumonia and sepsis; heart attack and other cardiac problems; blood clots; infection; malnutrition and aspiration; brain swelling; seizures; recurrent stroke; and brain hemorrhages.

Studies have shown that hospital units that specialize in stroke care decrease mortality, increase the likelihood of being discharged to home and improve functional status and quality of life.

All patients should receive supportive care -- including those who suffer major strokes and the elderly. "Even in these populations, the majority of patients will survive their stroke," the authors write. "The degree of functional recovery, however, may be dramatically impacted by the intensity and appropriateness of supportive care." Co-authors are Loyola neurologists and stroke specialists Sarkis Morales-Vidal, MD, Michael Schneck, MD, and Jose Biller, MD.
